"5 enthusiastic stars!!" Emergency Dentistry When You Need It Most
Dr. Kirksey was amazing. He saw my son on an emergency Saturday appointment and went out of his way to provide extended care and provided us much more cost-effective options (on the emergency and non-emergency dental issues) than many other dentists I’ve consulted. He was direct but supportive in chatting with my son, and even gave us his direct cell phone for any follow-up. Wish we had discovered him earlier. 5 enthusiastic stars!!

While emergencies are time-sensitive, our dentists don't rush their work or cut any corners. We take the time to understand your case and determine the best course of action for treatment. We use advanced technology to take digital scans of your mouth and diagnose your condition with confidence. When you visit us, you're in the hands of dentists who genuinely care about their work.
Emergencies We Can Treat
Toothache
Tooth pain can be unbearable and requires immediate attention. A toothache can be caused by several different dental complications, including infection or decay. For an infected tooth, our emergency dentists perform conservative root canal treatment in order to avoid the need for an extraction. For a minor toothache that is caused by a cavity, we can provide a dental filling.
Broken, Chipped, or Cracked Teeth
Structural damage to a tooth can be excruciating, especially if the damage extends to your root. Our dentists provide pain relief and can restore any broken teeth you have. If you have suffered severe damage, we can create and place a dental crown. If you are left with cosmetic issues after we address your urgent needs, we can restore your smile's appearance by concealing cracks and chips using dental bonding or porcelain veneers.
Lost Teeth
If you experience trauma severe enough to dislodge a tooth, it is essential that you see a dentist immediately. The sooner you can receive our dentists' help, the better the chance we can save your natural tooth. If we cannot save your natural tooth, we can replace it with a durable, lifelike restoration. Depending on your situation, you may need a dental implant to help restore your smile. Advancements in dentistry allow us to replace missing teeth in a way that restores your health and appearance.
Damaged Dental Work
If your dental crowns or porcelain veneers break or fall off, save the pieces and call our office for an appointment. Our emergency dentists may be able to reattach your restoration. If not, we can help create a new dental crown or veneer that seamlessly blends into your smile. Our dentists can help you decide what type of material is best for your needs in terms of strength and aesthetics.
Uncontrolled Bleeding
Some bleeding after a dental procedure, such as having a tooth extracted, is completely normal. Your dentist will pack the area with gauze that can be changed out and the bleeding should eventually slow and form a blood clot. In some cases, though, the bleeding can become heavier and difficult to control. Whether you saw us for your initial procedure or not, we can help. Bleeding can pose a serious risk so don't delay in reaching out to us.
Common Dental Emergency Treatments
Tooth Extraction
While we'll always try and preserve natural teeth, there are times when tooth extraction is best. For example, if a root canal is unsuccessful, if we're unable to place a knocked-out tooth back into the socket, or if you have a crack that extends beneath the gum line, we'll recommend pulling the tooth.
Dental Implants
When a tooth extraction is needed or a tooth is knocked out, we'll always recommend that eligible patients replace the tooth with a dental implant. Even a single missing tooth can have a severe impact on your oral health, weakening the surrounding bone and increasing your chances of further tooth loss. A dental implant is a small titanium post that is embedded in the jaw. Once it fuses with the surrounding tissue, we can attach a dental crown.
Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are one of the most versatile solutions in dentistry. If you have broken a tooth, a dental crown can be used to reinforce its structure. Dental crowns are also placed after root canal therapy and used to restore dental implants.
Root Canal Therapy
Several types of common dental emergencies can be addressed with root canal treatment. Discomfort ranging from sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures to a severe toothache is often tied to an internal infection. Infected tissue within a tooth can only be effectively treated with root canal therapy.

Why Patients Trust Us
My daughter has been through several dental practices over the years, and many have under delivered or have conduct themselves less than ethically expected. This is not the case with Fairfax Family Dental Care, and specifically Dr. Kirksey. My daughter required emergency dental treatment recently for a tooth that was causing tremendous pain. Dr. Kirksey immediately recognized the cause and executed a treatment plan that gave her immediate relief. Words can not describe how thankful we are to have discovered Fairfax Family Dental Care, their Dentist, and the overall professionalism, and empathy they have provided us in these difficult and trying times.
View on GoogleMy initial consultation was very informative and I was scheduled quickly to come in for another visit. My second visit was wonderful - the dental hygienist that took care of me was kind, respectful, and extremely knowledgeable. She made sure I was aware of possible costs before starting any work and offered recommendations to ensure the longevity of my dental health. I will absolutely be returning.

How to Protect Your Smile
Get a Custom Mouthguard
One of the simplest ways you can protect your smile is to wear a mouthguard during sports and other types of contact activities. A custom mouthguard provided by our Fairfax practice can not only protect your teeth but also the surrounding soft tissues.
Don't Use Your Teeth as Tools
If you damaged your teeth by doing something like opening a bottle, know that it's not uncommon but we also hope you've learned your lesson. Even chewing on pens, opening packages with your teeth, or eating ice cubes can have serious effects.
Manage Teeth Grinding
Teeth grinding gradually wears teeth down over time, often resulting in thin enamel and hairline fractures. Eventually, you may experience severe sensitivity. Similar to a sports mouthguard, there are appliances that can physically protect your teeth if you suffer from bruxism. If your grinding is tied to TMJ disorder, our Fairfax practice might also design a mouthguard to reposition your jaw and alleviate pressure on the jaw joints.
