Maintain Your Long-Term Oral Health with General Dentistry

Our doctors at Fairfax Family Dental Care offer a wide range of general dentistry treatments, including exams and cleanings, pediatric care, and root canal therapy for patients in the Fairfax, VA, area. General dentistry is the foundation of a healthy smile and plays an integral role in both your oral and overall health. If your smile is compromised, you are at risk of developing gum disease and, in more severe cases, sustaining tooth loss. It is our goal to help preserve your natural teeth as long as possible using conservative and effective treatments.

Types of General Dentistry Treatments

We offer a variety of general dentistry services to help our patients achieve optimal oral health.

Exams and Cleanings

At Fairfax Family Dental Care, we encourage patients to visit their dentist every six months for routine exams and cleanings. At these appointments, we can detect early stages of decay and other oral health concerns, such as oral cancer, using advanced x-rays. We can then recommend appropriate treatment to help you avoid costly restorative procedures in the future.

Dr. Charles Kirksey has been with Fairfax Dental Family Care for over 30 years, building a reputation of excellence within our community.

Even patients who brush and floss their teeth diligently need to have their teeth professionally cleaned. Only a dentist can remove tough plaque and tartar in hard-to-reach areas. During your checkup, we can also administer fluoride treatment and dental sealants, as well as provide instructions as to how to improve your oral health care regimen at home.

Pediatric Dentistry

image of smiling child at dentistOur doctors are proud to offer dental care to patients of all ages, including young children with developing teeth. As soon as your child’s first tooth erupts, it is important to make an appointment with the dentist. Children who visit the dentist at a young age are more likely to practice good oral hygiene habits long into their adult years. In addition, early treatment can stave off tooth decay in primary teeth, providing a healthy foundation for adult teeth. Through our pediatric dentistry services, our doctors can even correct bite disorders with orthodontia before they develop into more serious problems.

TMJ Treatment

Jaw pain, locked jaw, muscle spasms, and difficulty chewing are all common signs of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder. This oral health condition affects the temporomandibular joints, which act as hinges connecting the upper and lower jaws. These joints can become inflamed due to injury, a poorly aligned bite, or teeth grinding, and can cause chronic pain. To alleviate discomfort, we offer a variety of TMJ treatments, including oral appliance therapy. If your condition is a result of a bite disorder, we may be able to correct it through traditional orthodontics.

Root Canal Therapy

When a dental infection has spread to the inner portion of a tooth, known as the pulp, root canal therapy can help to save the tooth and prevent the need for extraction. During your procedure, your doctor can remove the infected tissue and reshape the canals, before filling the inner chamber with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha. We can then place a custom dental crown over the tooth to strengthen and restore its function.
